Ryan Shazier Receives Good News, Looking Forward To Next Step
On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier received good news when the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center told him he was being discharged from the hospital.
The Hospital also announced Shazier’s release on their Twitter page.
“Ryan Shazier was discharged from the UMPC Rehabilitation Institute at UMPC Mercy today and will transition into an outpatient therapy program through the UMPC Centers for Rehab institutes,” UMPC said in a statement.
Shazier, a two-time Pro Bowler, who suffered a spinal injury in Pittsburgh’s week 13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, underwent spine stabilization surgery in December.
Last month, Shazier’s father, Vernon, said his son had regained feeling in his leg, which he didn’t have immediately after the injury. Ryan Shazier was seen leaving the hospital in a wheelchair.
Shortly after his discharge, Shazier posted a photo of himself standing with Ben Roethlisberger, and captioned it with a statement addressing his release.
“I’ve had a lot of 1st downs at UPMC, but you know being the defensive guy I am, my mind is on 3 and out,” Shazier wrote on Instagram. “I want everyone to know I’m moving on to the next step in the process. Today’s a big day for me as I’m officially being released from the hospital,” Shazier wrote.
“I want to thank God because at the end of the day I don’t think I’d be making progress without His vision and hands protecting me and my family. I will continue to trust in Him and thank Him, because it all starts with Him.”
“I want to thank Mr. Rooney, Coach T, Mr. Colbert, and the entire Steelers organization for the unwavering support they’ve given me. I knew they were an amazing organization, but more than ever they’re family to me.”
