Dak Prescott And Ezekiel Elliott Prove Cowboys Are Still America’s Team
The Dallas Cowboys finished the 2017 season with a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs, bringing an end to a season that started with Super Bowl aspirations after a 13-3 finish to the 2016 season.
When it comes to NFL jersey sales, successful teams with star players usually lead the league in sales, but the Cowboys bucked the trend this year thanks to their talented young players.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, who didn’t play as well as he did during his rookie season when he won the Rookie of the Year award, finished first in merchandise sales this season. Running back Ezekiel Elliott finished second on the list, and was followed by Tom Brady, Carson Wentz and Aaron Rodgers.
What makes this list so interesting is the fact that Prescott wasn’t as good as he was last year and couldn’t get the Cowboys back into the playoffs but was still able to outsell veterans like Brady, who has five Super Bowl rings and will be playing for his sixth on Sunday, and Aaron Rodgers, who also has a Super Bowl ring and a few MVP trophies at home.
Outselling Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz must have been an added bonus, since the Cowboys can’t stand the Eagles, who will also be playing in the Super Bowl in a few days.
What’s even more amazing id the fact that Elliott finished second to Prescott despite missing six games this season due to a suspension by the league.
Even Dez Bryant, who was 11th on the list and finished with less than 1,000 yards for the third straight season, was more popular than Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who came in 12th. In fact Bryant was also more popular than Von Miller, who was the Super Bowl MVP a few years ago.
The one thing this list proves is that despite the Eagles and Patriots playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday, the Cowboys remain America’s team.
