Cowboys Thinking Of Making Significant Upgrade To Offensive Line
The Dallas Cowboys already have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, but the team might be planning to add more depth through the draft this year.
At the Senior Bowl, the Cowboys met with UTEP guard Will Hernandez. Hernandez, who is listed at 6 foot 3, 330 pounds, is a very physical player and dominated a lot of defensive linemen this season. Hernandez was very impressive in the Senior Bowl, which might tempt the Cowboys to use a draft pick on him.
Hernandez is the second highest ranked guard in the draft this year, behind Notre Dame’s Quenton Nelson. Nelson is expected to go high in the draft this year so he likely won’t be available by the time the Cowboys make their first selection.
After meeting with the Cowboys, Hernandez was excited about the possibility of playing for America’s team.
“I’d love to,” he said when posed the question. “I’d be 100 percent in, loyal to the bone. It’d mean everything to me. It’d be a complete honor. I look up to those guys [on the Cowboys’ offensive line]. Those guys are awesome to watch.”
“I know I’d learn so much from them and become a better player just by playing next to them. I definitely think …everybody should play [with a mean streak like Martin does]. I try to do the same, you know? I try to look at them and try to do what they do – that’s the reason they’re at that level.
“I definitely feel like everybody should do it and I try to do it almost every play.”
With the Cowboys having more pressing need at the receiver and linebacker position, it will be interesting to see who the Cowboys decide to select with their first pick.
