Surprising Front Runner Emerges In Real Madrid Coaching Search

A few days after winning his third consecutive Champions League trophy, Zinedine Zidane stepped down as Real Madrid’s manager, ending one of the most successful runs in the club’s illustrious history.

Zidane’s resignation came as a surprise to many, and even though he will be missed, the club hasn’t wasted any time looking for his replacement.

According to reports, Real Madrid is targeting Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino to take over for Zidane.

Pochettino has improved Tottenham since arriving in 2014, leading them to three consecutive top three finishes in the Premier League.

“I like it a lot at Tottenham as they let me work and we are growing together,” he said. “Now I want to focus on planning for next season, and keep myself a bit away from all that is being said.”

When asked about a move to Madrid, Pochettino, who signed a five-year deal with Tottenham last week, said he is willing to listen if called, but added that he was happy with the Hotspur.

“When Real Madrid call you, you have to listen to them,” Pochettino said. “In this case it does not depend on me.

“I have just signed a long contract with Tottenham, and am happy here. There will be lots of rumors and many things said, but I have heard nothing from Real Madrid.”

Despite his evasive answers about his interest in the job, Pochettino had nothing but praise for Zidane.

“Real Madrid have won four Champions Leagues in five years, three in a row,” he said. “Zidane deserves enormous praise, I am a big admirer of his. But we are talking about the best players in the world.”
