Cowboys Legend Makes Bold Prediction
The Dallas Cowboys went into the season as Super Bowl contenders because they finished the 2016 season 13-3 and have some promising young talent expected to take they all the way.
However, the team finished the season 9-7 and missed the playoffs, which upset a lot of the players and fans that were expecting to be preparing for the NFC Championship Game this weekend.
Despite the disappointing season, former Cowboys quarterback and Hall of Famer, Roger Staubach, hasn’t lost faith in his former team.
Staubach, who won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys, predicted the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl next season, surprising a lot of people at the event he was speaking at.
Staubach also added that he will be rooting for the Minnesota Vikings to win it all because he can’t bring himself to root for the Philadelphia Eagles, even after all this time.
While the fans are happy that the legendary quarterback thinks the team can win the Super Bowl next year, it definitely isn’t going to be as easy as it sounds.
The Cowboys still have a lot of issues to address during the offseason. Team owner Jerry Jones, who said after the season he wanted to avoid too much turnover in his coaching staff, has already lost seven assistant coaches and the season is not yet officially over.
Jones fired a few of the coaches but others left for better opportunities, and one retired.
Jones will need to find some capable replacements and hope the turnover doesn’t affect the team.
Dez Bryant is another cause for concern because he seems to be in decline and isn’t producing like a star receiver is expected to. Bryant, who said his production was down because he played through an injury this season, will either have to take a pay cut or be released.
If Bryant is released, the Cowboys will need to make a move for one or two of the top receivers in free agency, to give Dak Prescott some weapons to work with.
The Cowboys also have to make sure they sign their star free agents like Zach Martin. If the Cowboys can keep their core intact and bring in some free agents that can make an impact, Stuabach’s prediction just might come true.
