Dak Prescott Has Surprising Message For Doubters
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott got a lot of blame for the team’s performance last season, but doesn’t plan on letting it affect him this year.
Despite the team missing the playoffs last season, they still finished with a 9-7 record, even though they didn’t have running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games because of a suspension.
Prescott, who won the Rookie of the Year award in 2016, after leading the team to an NFC best 13-3 record, took the lion share of the blame for their struggles last season even though he played well for most of the season.
This year, Prescott has a message for the people that are doubting the Cowboys, telling reporters that the doubters are only making the team hungrier for success this year.
Prescott, who was hosting his annual youth football camp at Byron Nelson High School, told reporters he is excited about the upcoming season because he likes the direction the team is headed, and believes they will do well next season even without Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, who surprised his teammates by retiring after the season.
“I like where we are headed,” Prescott said. “I like the way we finished OTAs and minicamp. I like our attitude as a team, our hunger, the youthfulness, the energy. You can see guys excited to get back. And what’s good, the last day of an OTA or minicamp, guys weren’t sprinting out the door. That was exciting to see. And knowing that guys want to get back together in this off time to not only just hang out but to work and get better at ball. That is exactly what we need in a young team.”
“It’s hard to (surprise) people with the Dallas Cowboys; our standards are high,” Prescott continued. “But when you hear talk we don’t have this player, we don’t have that player. We don’t have a lot of well-known guys. But that only makes the guys we have hungrier.”
With a focused Prescott and healthy Elliott on the team, the Cowboys will surprise a lot of teams as well as their doubters this season.
